Dreaming of fruit
Lucky in KoreaWestern dream guides usually read fruit as fertility, reward or the payoff of hard work.
Fruit dreams are the most common taemong, or pregnancy dream, in Korea. Picking ripe peaches, apples, persimmons or chestnuts, or receiving them as a gift, is widely read as news of a coming child. Outside of pregnancy, ripe fruit also means hard work finally paying off. Rotten or worm-eaten fruit is a weaker sign, pointing to a plan that may not bear results.

The Korean story behind fruit dreams
Korea has deep farming roots, and fruit trees around the home were a sign that a family was settled and growing. Seeds and fruit naturally suggest new life. During a traditional wedding ceremony called pyebaek, the groom's parents may toss jujubes and chestnuts for the newlyweds to catch in the bride's skirt. The number caught is playfully said to predict how many children the couple will have. Persimmons and peaches also carry ties to long life in folk art. With all these links, a dream about ripe fruit became the classic way for families to sense a pregnancy.
Could a fruit dream be a taemong?
A fruit taemong is said to announce a healthy child, and some families guess the baby's traits from the fruit's color and size.
Fruit dream: what people do next
Relatives often ask an expecting mother or a newly married couple about their fruit dreams with a smile. Some people keep a record of the dream to tell the child later. Others read it as a sign to keep tending a project until it ripens. Rotten fruit is usually taken as a gentle prompt to adjust a plan.
Good to know
Some families try to guess a baby's sex from the type of fruit in the dream, though the guesses vary from region to region.
