Knight of Wands

#Action#Adventure#Drive
Upright

A knight charges forward on a rearing horse without a moment's hesitation. Travel, moves, and bold new challenges all gain strong momentum under this card.

Reversed

Moving too hastily could undo the very thing you are working so hard toward right now.

The card's advice: Check your destination before you set off.

Knight of Wands: reading the picture

Dust billows under a brown horse, fully airborne, front legs folded high, mane and tail streaming back. The rider wears an old Korean military officer's armor: a helmet pulled low, a long red cloth flying behind, one hand on the reins and the other raising a leafy wand. His eyes point right, toward something still off the edge of the card. The dunes below are the ground the Page only gazed at, and the Knight is already crossing it. Yet there's no road here. No marker, no bridge, only hills and rocks. He left faster than anyone, but no destination is drawn. That suspended moment is his charm and his risk.

Knight of Wands in love, work and money

  • Love and relationships

When feelings spark, you rush straight toward the other person. Because the pace is fast, pausing for a beat so they can keep up helps the connection last longer.

  • Work and study

Big moves such as a new project, a job change, or a business trip get a strong push. Pin down your goal and deadline before you leave, and that drive will turn into results.

  • Money

It is easy to hit the buy button on impulse right now. Set a limit on travel and transportation costs beforehand so you can go and enjoy yourself with peace of mind.

When it comes up

Moving to Austin after six weeks

A 31-year-old bartender in Chicago had been dating someone for six weeks when the partner got a job offer in Austin and asked, half joking, whether they should both go. The thrill was real, and so was the panic. One card answered: the Knight of Wands. The partner's question is the rearing horse, and it needn't be reined in. But the picture has no road. Before giving notice on the apartment, the card suggests answering three things: where each of them would live at first, what work would be waiting, and what would make either of them come back.

Questions to ask yourself after drawing Knight of Wands

  • Are your front hooves in the air or on the ground right now? Can you say in one sentence why you set off?
  • Since the picture shows no road, which stretch of your plan hasn't been drawn yet?
  • If someone is riding with you at this speed, is their horse actually moving as fast as yours?

Knight of Wands as a yes or no

Yes The urge to move is strong, so things will progress, though rushing could send you off course.

Easy to confuse with Knight of Swords

Both are knights charging on horseback, so the pictures blur together. The Knight of Wands is driven by desire: he dives in for the thrill and doesn't mind if the plan changes on the way. The Knight of Swords is driven by an idea he believes is right, cutting forward with sharp words. Rushing for adventure is Wands. Rushing to win an argument is Swords.

A common misreading of Knight of Wands

In love readings, this Knight is often taken to mean an exciting man is on his way. It can describe a person of any gender, and it can also describe the speed of a situation. If it is a person, read the whole picture: magnetic and bold, and also hard to keep in one place for long.

Symbols in Knight of Wands

Gripping his wand, the knight races ahead on a horse with its front hooves raised, a picture of passion and drive that will not stop. The rearing horse expresses fiery energy, and the dunes an adventure into unknown lands.
