Page of Cups

#Sensitivity#Surprising news#Imagination
Upright

A fish peeks out of a young dreamer's cup, bringing unexpected, tender news and sparkling sensitivity. Creativity and brand-new feelings are beginning to bud in you.

Reversed

Getting swept up in emotion may lead you toward hopes that drift far away from reality.

The card's advice: Capture the feelings that arise in writing or drawing.

Page of Cups: reading the picture

Mid-leap, a fish bursts halfway out of a gold cup, red fins spread and drops of water flying. The young person holding it, in hanbok with a red ribbon in their hair, sits on a rock at the shore and raises the cup to eye level. They look at the fish the way you'd greet a guest you half expected. Behind them, white surf breaks around jagged rock islands. If the sea is deep feeling, the fish is something small that popped up from it without warning: an odd idea, a surprise message, a feeling you didn't plan on. The Page doesn't push it back in, just watches.

Page of Cups in love, work and money

  • Love and relationships

You may receive an unexpectedly sweet message or an adorable confession. Innocent feelings are precious, but get to know the person slowly instead of building them from imagination alone.

  • Work and study

An offbeat idea could lead to a surprisingly good result. Jot down thoughts the moment they come, and they become excellent material for creative work or planning.

  • Money

Your mood may make you want pretty things or small gifts. Set a monthly amount for spending that feeds your heart, then enjoy it freely within that limit.

When it comes up

Picture book ideas on lunch napkins

A 47-year-old insurance adjuster started doodling a cartoon raccoon on lunch napkins, and within a month the raccoon had a name, a best friend and a problem to solve. She'd never written fiction and felt silly about it. She drew the Page of Cups and laughed at the fish jumping out of the cup, because that was exactly how the raccoon had shown up. The Page isn't a skilled artist; it's someone surprised by what appeared. She bought a cheap sketchbook and moved the napkins into it, with no plan to show anyone yet.

Questions to ask yourself after drawing Page of Cups

  • Have you caught yourself saying 'wait, this could be fun' out loud lately, and about what?
  • When an odd idea jumps out at you like that fish, do you usually catch it or let it slip back into the water?
  • What are you enjoying privately that you're still too shy to show anyone?

Page of Cups as a yes or no

Yes Like the fish in the cup, a pleasant surprise could appear, so it is fine to hope lightly.

Easy to confuse with Knight of Cups

Both are young people holding cups, but one sits and one moves. The Page perches on a rock studying the fish in the cup: a feeling or idea just born, not yet offered to anyone. The Knight rides forward with the cup raised, carrying a feeling to someone. Think of it as the day you discover something versus the day you bring it over.

A common misreading of Page of Cups

Pages are sometimes read only as children or as news about kids. Anyone, at any age, who is learning or feeling something for the first time can sit in the Page's spot. The card is about a beginner's attitude more than a birth year.

Symbols in Page of Cups

A youth seated on the seashore smiles, unsurprised, at a fish poking its head out of his cup. The fish is imagination rising from deep within, while the gold-patterned clothing and rolling sea suggest a rich, sensitive spirit.
