Ten of Pentacles
The Ten of Pentacles stands for stability passed down through generations and a family's shared abundance. Household and property matters tend to work out well.
Watch out for money troubles within the family or tension over what is being passed down.
The card's advice: Make long-term plans together with your family.
Ten of Pentacles: reading the picture
Grandfather, father, mother, child: three generations gather under a stone archway topped with a tiled roof. The white-haired elder sits and holds the little boy's hand, laughing. Behind him stands a man in a tall black gat, a Korean horsehair hat, while a woman in a red hanbok leans toward the child. Two dogs sit in front, a tan one grinning at the grandfather's feet and a spotted one looking up at the boy. Five coins run down each pillar, ten in all, framing the family like a doorway. Notice that no one holds a coin. The wealth is built into the house itself, and the gate is stone, made to last.
Ten of Pentacles in love, work and money
- Love and relationships
Your relationship deepens toward something lasting, such as meeting the family or picturing a future together. Differences between your two families can be worked out through conversation and become a sturdy shelter.
- Work and study
This is a good time to connect with a long-term employer, a stable organization, or a family business with deep roots. Choose based on the career you can build over years, not just quick gains.
- Money
It is a good time to make money plans for your family's future, such as a home, savings, or insurance. Do not put off money talks within the family; aligning expectations early reduces conflict.
The lake cabin three siblings share
Their parents left the family lake cabin to all three of them, and after two summers of arguments over who used it and who paid for the new roof, the eldest, a 50-year-old high school principal, was close to suggesting a sale. Before the family video call she drew the Ten of Pentacles. The family under the arch is warm, but what holds up the gate is stone. Affection lasts longer with structure. She drafted a shared calendar and a cost split and asked her siblings to mark it up before anyone mentioned selling.
Questions to ask yourself after drawing Ten of Pentacles
- Besides money, what gets passed down in my family: recipes, sayings, ways of working?
- Is one of the stone pillars my family leans on actually one person carrying too much?
- How will today's decision look to the youngest person under that arch twenty years from now?
Ten of Pentacles as a yes or no
Yes Lasting stability and family support are on your side, so things lean in a good direction.
Easy to confuse with Ten of Cups
Two happy families make an easy mix-up. In the Ten of Cups, the family sits close and laughs beneath a rainbow of cups; the subject is emotional closeness. The Ten of Pentacles family stands inside a frame of stone pillars and coins: home, property, family business. One asks whether you're close; the other asks whether what you stand on is solid.
A common misreading of Ten of Pentacles
This card is often narrowed to 'you'll receive an inheritance.' It covers what you build to pass on as much as what you receive, including family habits, traditions, and agreements. It fits households without much property just as well.
Symbols in Ten of Pentacles
Under an archway, a white-bearded elder pets two dogs while a young couple and child gather close. Ten coins set in two columns of five on the gateway pillars, like the pillars holding up a house, show a family's abundance carried on from one generation to the next.
How we drew Ten of Pentacles
- Kept from the 1909 card
the elder and family under the gateway, the two dogs, the ten coins
- What we changed
The castle gate becomes a stone arched gateway, and the family wears hanbok (traditional Korean clothing).
