The Metal Rat day pillar
iron washed clean in clear water
What is a Metal Rat like?
Bright and articulate, people born on a Metal Rat day have a sharp critical eye. They draw clear lines between right and wrong. When something seems off, they say so, whether it is a flawed plan at work or a typo on a restaurant menu.
What 庚子 is made of
A Metal Rat day pillar means the pillar of your birth day is 庚子 (gyeong-ja). In 庚子, the top character 庚 (Yang Metal) is your day master, and the bottom character 子, the Rat, sits in the spouse seat with Water energy. The main energy hidden in that spouse seat is "Hurting Officer" for this day master, and the day master's strength there is the "Death" stage of the 12 life stages (a still, thoughtful energy). How day pillars are read
Metal Rat strengths and watch-outs

- Chafes at procedures and top-down orders
The Metal Rat at their best
Catching a serious flaw in a plan just in time and explaining it so clearly that everyone thanks them.
Lead with one sincere compliment before any critique, and watch how much more easily your point is heard.
Metal Rat in love and marriage
The spouse seat holds clever, outspoken energy, so their standards in love run high and a partner's flaws stand out quickly. Offering praise before pointing out problems makes the relationship much softer and warmer for both people.
Why?
The Metal Rat's spouse seat is 子, the Rat. Its main hidden energy, 癸, counts as "Hurting Officer" (self-expression and breaking rules) for a Yang Metal day master.
How the Metal Rat works
The Metal Rat prefers thinking with no clutter. They shine when they can observe and analyze quietly, then deliver a clear conclusion in speech or writing. Work that only asks them to follow instructions bores them fast. Policy or report review, technical writing that makes hard topics simple, and user research or testing roles that hunt for problems fit them well.
The Metal Rat in 2027
Two forces face each other this year. The year stem brings a Direct Officer, demanding order and duty, while the Rat on the lower half of this pillar carries the Hurting Officer, a voice that questions rules. That makes every comment more likely to be judged. The Rat and the Goat also form both a Yuan Jin, a grudging mismatch, and a Harm relation, so small misunderstandings with close people or organizations can tangle. When you disagree, attach one workable alternative, and let important emails sit overnight before sending.
Why?
In the Fire Goat year (丁未), the heavenly stem 丁 is Fire, which is "Direct Officer" (order, duty and recognition) for the Metal Rat's Yang Metal day master. Its earthly branch 未, the Goat, and the spouse seat 子, the Rat, form a wonjin pair (a pairing said to rub each other the wrong way) and a harm pair (each quietly gets in the other's way).
