Dreaming of a magpie or crow

Depends on the details
What it usually means in the US

In the West magpies are often tied to mischief or a fondness for shiny things. Crows suggest mystery, change or a dark omen.

What it means in Korea

Korean dream reading treats these two related birds very differently. A magpie is a messenger of good news, and an old saying holds that a magpie calling near your house means a guest is coming. A crow traditionally brings bad news or a worry. Some readers are kinder to the crow, seeing it as a messenger whose news simply needs careful attention.

The Korean story behind magpie or crow dreams

The magpie is often called Korea's national bird and appears everywhere in folk art. A famous painting style called kkachi horangi, meaning magpie and tiger, shows a comical tiger with a magpie perched above it. In those paintings the magpie is usually read as the bearer of good news. Crows had a darker reputation. Many villages linked them to death and funerals, partly because crows gather around carrion. Yet older traditions also praise the crow as a devoted bird that feeds its aging parents, a common image for caring for elders. That split between ill omen and loyal messenger gives the crow its mixed reading.

Magpie or crow dream: what people do next

After a magpie dream, many people simply expect a pleasant call, letter or visitor and stay open to it. A crow dream can be a reason to handle any pending task with extra care. Some dreamers check in with loved ones just to be safe. In both cases the dream is best held lightly.

Good to know

In the Chilseok legend, magpies and crows form a bridge across the Milky Way once a year so two separated lovers can meet.
